It has been an act of resistance in my suburb that I do NOT mow, but once a year. (And I wail afterwards.) This makes me unpopular, but I have a very biodiverse yard, made "messy" by nature and not garbage. I used the insect variety as an indicator. The craziest part is my respect and stewardship, as our yards will soon be the only place for wilderness, is one of the reasons I'm recently divorced.
